New York Life found that its predecessor (Nautilus Insurance Company) sold slaveholder policies during the mid-1800s. Also in the History of New York Life, detailed in 1906 it indicates that 339 of the company’s first 1000 policies were written on the lives of enslaved Blacks.
Although an apology has been issued and various programs have been instituted, true restitution and restoration have not occurred.
